Field Days

The girls are never happier than when they are working in the CSA veggie field with Papa and the Schmiedicke boys...

They are constantly reminding me why we are doing this for a living. Deo Gratias!

Piles of Kittens and Porch Picnics!

May Days!

May has been pretty idyllic lately. Tilda brings me bouquets of violets and lilacs nearly every day...the house is filled with vases of flowers!

With the help of our dear friends Deanna and Dawn we put in a little kitchen garden...for ease of summer snacking!

We planted out Bothilde's birthday present from Grandaad: 5 blueberry bushes and 2 blackberries! And Two rosebushes from Grandmim will make for feasts for the eyes as well!

Happy Easter!

Easter Day dawned with parasols, japanese tea, peach preserves, mass, and an Easter egg hunt.
We enjoyed Uncle John's visit, and watched the lambs cavort across the lawn...

Bothilde pointed out the blooming dogwood trees with heart winging intensity:

" Look Mama! The buds are LELLOW! the buds are LELLOW!"

Papa's Girl

Someone skipped her nap today to help Papa shell corn for the chickens and seed lettuce in the greenhouse. The quietest moments on the farm are often the sweetest.

Pea Princesses

After reading the Princess and the Pea to Una at naptime...I asked:

"Una, are you a real princess??"

she replied

"No. Look at my legs"

and then she drew her dimpled little stumps out from under the bedclothes...

"Not yet" she said.

I nearly died laughing.

The last of the snow if melted...these days are spent running in and out of the steaming greenhouse..visiting the sheep and goats...making french bread (and assembling sandwhiches with the last of our broiler chicken). We are soaking up the cosy days, getting ready for the running about pell mell with "Zippidy Doo" in our hearts over the Spring weather.
